A Learning Opportunity

How does the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors interact with my community? What is the Dillion rule? When is the next election date? These questions are quite common from individuals involved in Democratic politics in Fairfax County. Fairfax Young Democrats have put together an opportunity to learn and discuss our local government structure. In an effort to assist with the learning, Fairfax Young Democrats created the Fairfax 101 event for new people.  On December 7, participants will be offered a brief presentation about Fairfax County government and an opportunity to get their questions addressed through discussion. The meeting will be held at Patrick Henry Community Library (101 Maple Avenue East, Vienna 22180) at 7:30 PM. This event is a great learning opportunity for people who just got involved in local government and the Democratic party. To RSVP, visit  http://www.fairfaxyoungdems.net/fairfax_101_politics.

You Have Our Appreciation

Fairfax Young Democrats want to take a moment to thank our volunteers for their work during the campaign season. As referenced in the Virginia Young Democrats Youth Vote 2017 memo, the youth vote (18-29) performance was 69 percent and 61 percent for older millennials (30-44). Young voters cast 252,000-plus ballots for Governor-elect Northam, representing slightly more than his margin of victory.

In addition, we want to hear what work worked, what did not work, and what could be improved for the 2018 elections. Join the Fairfax Young Democrats for our volunteer appreciation party and election recap meeting. The meeting will be held at the Fairfax County Democratic Committee office located at 8500 Executive Park Avenue in Fairfax beginning at 7:00 PM. Food and refreshments will be provided. Please feel free to bring a dish as well. Sign up for the party, here

Make Your Voice Heard in Richmond

Democrats had a resounding victory in the statewide and House of Delegates elections. As this new team of elected officials heads down to Richmond, young people need to articulate what they want to see this session in the General Assembly.

Join the Fairfax Young Democrats for our millennial legislative forum. This forum will allow young people to listen about legislative priorities from the General Assembly and we can discuss some of our priorities for this 2018 session.

*Please take the legislative survey to let electeds know what you are about most! http://www.fairfaxyoungdems.net/legislative_survey*

Note: Prefiling of legislation for 2018 General Assembly starts on November 20 and the session begins on January 10, 2018.
