March Fairfax Young Democrats Meeting

It has been a busy couple of weeks since our last Fairfax Young Democrats meeting. We marched and protested in DC. We wrote, called, and emailed our local elected officials about the new administration cabinet nominees  We organized together to develop our thoughts and plans for the upcoming year. Join Fairfax Young Democrats for our March general meeting on March 29 at Pohick Regional Library. Our meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. We will be recapping past events, the VAYD convention, volunteer opportunities in our community, 2017 primary candidates, and barriers for young people getting involved in Virginia politics.

Our special guest for the evening will be Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn. Delegate Filler-Corn has over two decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, working across party lines to make a difference in the lives of all Virginians. In the House of Delegates, Eileen is a member of the Transportation Committee, Finance Committee, and the Commerce & Labor Committee. In November of 2015, she was elected Vice Chair for Outreach of the House Democratic Caucus. She previously served as the House Democratic Whip. Delegate Filler-Corn won decisive victories during the 2017 General Assembly with her legislation that dealt with consent education and improving access to birth control. 2017 FCDC Jefferson-Obama Dinner

Fairfax County Democratic Committee is hosting their annual Jefferson-Obama Dinner on May 21 at Sheraton Tysons Hotel. This is one of the biggest Democratic events in the entire Washington DC region. The keynote speaker for the dinner is Gold Star Father Khizr Khan. The ticket prices for the event is much larger than a normal fundraiser event. Fairfax County Democratic Committee has been gracious enough to provide a special Young Democrats ticket rate.

Research for the Resistance (Postponed)

Fairfax Young Democrats will be hosting a special workshop regarding opposition research on March 8 at the Oakton Library (10304 Lynnhaven Place Oakton, 22124). Our workshop will begin at 7:30 PM. The workshop will cover tactics, strategy, and practical application for opposition research candidates and issues. Our presenter will be Fairfax Young Democrats member and political communication professional Sam Miller. It is another great opportunity to add to your political skills or to learn about an important piece of political campaigns. 

Sam Miller Biography:
Political communications professional and Fairfax County native. Sam has worked on Democratic campaigns at the local, state, and federal level helping develop messages that tell stories and break through to voters. His most recent experience was in the hotly contested race for Florida's 18th congressional district where he served as the campaign's Communications Director. Prior to that, he served as an on the ground opposition researcher for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) where he learned the strategic skills and best practices for crafting effective counter-narratives against electoral opponents.
