We are quickly approaching the Fairfax Young Democrats Fall Fundraiser on September 24 in Tysons. Every year, we invite innovative speakers bringing new perspectives about Democratic politics and this year is no different. The Fairfax Young Democrats are proud to announce Delegate Sam Rasoul of the 11th House of Delegates District and Run For Something co-founder Ross Morales Rocketto as our special guests at our event. Delegate Rasoul has been working in the Roanoke area bringing a new dimension to outreach within the Democratic Party and expanding the overall base through new messaging. Rocketto is one of the co-founders of a Run For Something, a dynamic progressive organization, working to engage young people in the civic process by getting them into elected offices. You do not want to miss these speakers. Tickets are moving quickly so if you want to attend you should buy today!

We are excited to announce Karen Keys-Gamarra was successful in her bid for the At-Large School Board seat. As reported by the Fairfax County Democratic Committee "With all precincts reporting, the unofficial results showed Keys-Gamarra with 41,436 votes, or over 63% of the vote, nearly doubling the turnout of her Republican-endorsed opponent." This victory was not only a victory for a candidate or political party but the children of Fairfax County. Thank you to all the Fairfax Young Democrats and our regional clubs for the work on this important election. We are charged up for the next election in November but we are going to need more help.
It might be the dog days of summer but the Fairfax Young Democrats are still working towards victory in November. Our next general meeting is on August 24 at the City of Fairfax Regional Library. The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. We will be discussing the upcoming special election for the FCPS School Board (Go Karen Keys-Gamarra!), Back to School Nights, and other volunteer opportunities. It is crucial that we get our message out to other young people to vote in this election. If you dislike some of the things you hear on the nightly news, one way to remedy the situation is to put the right people into public office. To RSVP for the meeting, visit http://www.fairfaxyoungdems.net/august_general_meeting. Don't forget the Co-Presidents will be around before the meeting to talk and answer questions.
Update: Due to the events of the past week. We will be discussing Charlotteville and our ability to create political change in our communities.
